Riverside Arts Market:
A Case Study
START THE NEW DECADE OFF WITH VISION AND PURPOSE
The Jacksonville Chapter of the American Marketing Association (JAMA) is pleased to announce that Tony Allegretti, Director for the Riverside Arts Market and founder of the First Wednesday Art Walk, will present “Riverside Arts Market: A Case Study” at its Feb. 25 monthly meeting. When Allegretti became director for the weekly Riverside Arts Market (RAM), he only had a few weeks to promote the event before its early April opening. At the JAMA meeting, he will talk about the marketing strategies behind that effort, which resulted in some 40,000 visitors on opening day. He will also discuss the traditional, social and grassroots marketing he uses to draw visitors to the market throughout the year. The weekly market has promoted environment-friendly public activities, including biking and walking to shops, shortened driving distances, recycling, and homegrown produce. RAM's innovations are the envy of markets around the country – such as free bike valet, free Wi-Fi (increases transactions exponentially), and booth reservation software that helps to coral 1,000 artists into 158 spaces each Saturday. Allegretti previously has served as a special assistant to former Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton and as the public art consultant for Downtown Vision, Inc.
