An Entrepreneur On The Ball

Entrepreneur - On the Ball

Steve Nudelberg and his wife Michelle from On The Ball Marketing put on a great presentation at JAMA’s breakfast networking event September 25, 2014. Below are some of the takeaways from his presentation.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly of Entrepreneurship

Steve started off sharing some of his work and the highs and lows that he has experienced in his career thus far. He’s had some projects that have been a lot of fun, made a lot of profits and everything just seemed to come together. On the flipside, like many other entrepreneurs, he’s had his share of projects that didn’t work out… or flopped. One interesting project he highlighted was Sheets. Sheets is an energy supplement that came in a strip form, similar to Listerine strips, but instead of freshening breath, they gave you energy or helped you sleep. As far as the marketing campaign goes, there is nothing Steve would have changed about it. They had high profile celebrities including LeBron James and Pitbull promoting the product, advertised in NYC at Times Square and even pushed the envelop with advertising lines like “I take a Sheet right on stage” or “I Sheet in the Pool“. Not everybody was a fan of the edgy marketing effort but sometimes risks in marketing can pay off. Long story short, the product did not take off as desired. Competing against 5 Hour Energy and the plethora of other energy giants challenged it’s growth. All in all that’s one of the things about being an entrepreneur that’s true for all. You win some, you lose some, but if you keep swinging the bat you’ll most likely hit the ball from time to time. However you must be willing to face fear, advertising, take action and be consistent. One thing Steve likes to do when presenting is be sure to give a take away for attendees to put into action. Below he shares his morning ritual that he does daily to ensure a productive day.

Morning Rituals to Keep You Productive All Day Long:

  • Wake Up Early
  • 20 Minutes of Exercise
  • Read and Write
  • Start Your Day Drinking Something Green
  • Pick Three Wins for the Day
  • Count Your Blessings (gratitude)
  • GOYA! (Get off your ass)

In his last slide Steve shared the Rules of Engagement for entrepreneurs.

Rules of Engagement:

  • First Rule is to Show Up
  • Sell or Be Sold
  • It Is What It Is
  • Luck is for Those that Are Unprepared
  • Just Another Day in Paradise
