Sarah A. Henderson is the director of marketing and communications at United Way of Northeast Florida. In this role, she develops, executes and evaluates strategic marketing and communication plans to raise awareness of and grow United Way’s fundraising, community impact and volunteerism initiatives. Prior to United Way, Sarah managed digital communications for Downtown Vision Inc., Downtown Jacksonville’s business improvement district. There, she led the launch of several websites, DVI’s first blog and the #DTJax social influencer campaign, which won a Merit Award from the International Downtown Association and a Jacksonville Business Journal BizTech Innovation Award for “Best Use of Social Media.” Sarah began her career as a reporter and photographer at The Ponte Vedra Recorder in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., after completing internships at The Sierra Club’s magazine and Save the Redwoods League in downtown San Francisco.
In addition to her career in the nonprofit industry, Sarah is an advisory board member for the communication degree program at Florida State College at Jacksonville and a member of the JAX Chamber’s Hightower Emerging Leaders Fellowship class of 2018. She also served for five years on the board of the Cathedral Arts Project’s young professionals group, the CAPtivators. Sarah earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, where she is now pursuing a master’s in mass communication with a concentration in public interest communication. Sarah is a proud Jacksonville native and graduate of Wolfson High School.
